About two years ago a friend came to us with the info that there are only 12 hours in a day. But wait there are 24 hours in a day, right? Well, not according to the Bible. Like I said, we have been shown many things in the past few years, and most of them are mind boggling. At the time that we heard this news, we were keeping the Sabbath from sundown to sundown. We were told that the Jews kept the Sabbath from sundown to sundown on Saturday… and so we assumed that they could not be wrong. Our Saviour was a Jew, right? Hmmm.
Let’s check out a few Bible verses on day and night:
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Genesis 32:22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
John 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Just from these few verses I see that there is a difference in day and night. And there are more.
Check out this site for a lot more information on the 12 hour Sabbath/day.
When we first began keeping the 12 hour Sabbath it was a little odd. Why would our Heavenly Father require us to keep the Sabbath for only a day, it felt like we were cheating Him? What about the night time? I had been keeping the Sabbath all my life from sundown to sundown… It took awhile to be comfortable with keeping the Biblical day, but now I am at total peace. Freedom!
Please check out the above sight. It is incredible regarding the 12 hour day. But I do not agree with all that is stated on this sight.
