I was born into a family that kept the Sabbath. As it states in Genesis we are to rest on the seventh day, just like our Father did and still does. Genesis 2 states:
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
The seven day Sabbath is through out scripture. It is a time for us to come away from the world, worship our Heavenly Father, hang out in His creation, fellowship with fellow believers, feast, study, and come closer to our Father and His Son. Take a day off from work, school, TV, shopping, etc. A time to truly relax and grow. It can be an amazing time!
Below you will find just a few verses on the Sabbath. There are more. Our Father wants us to take a break, enjoy Him, His Son, and His creation. The Sabbath should never be a trial, but a joy. A time to be with your Best Friend and other friends including nature.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Leviticus 16:31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
Deut 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
